Drawing At The Barnes And Noble Cafe’
The title of today’s abstract expressionist illustration is “Inspired By Books”.
I have days when I just feel like leaving my studio and finding a different location to create. On this day I chose the Barnes and Noble cafe’. I ordered a salted caramel cookie (that’s right way off my strict diet) and a black coffee. I asked the girl working as the B&N barista if I could get a grande black coffee. She then asked me in a very cynical tone what type of coffee? I said, “a black coffee”. She said, “oh in the three years I have worked here no one has ever ordered plain coffee”. I said, “I usually order something more exciting but I felt like a black coffee”. She was already far away from me not wanting or caring what my response was. So once all the odd coffee ordering drama was over I found the fifth best table smack dab in the center of the cafe’. As I drew surrounded by the sea of laptop and tablet users I entered my world and created today’s piece. Believe it or not sometimes this type of interaction and uncomfortable seating is just what I need. So yes I was inspired by books.
