The World Today
The name of tonight’s abstract illustration is “Feigning Sincerity Presenting Apathy”
My post tonight was going to be about my lofty aspirations for the new year but instead I need to talk about something that happened this morning. On it’s face it is not a very interesting story but the more I dwell on it I realize it defines today’s world. I went to CVS to buy some vitamins and proteing shakes this morning. I went to the self checkout on the left. Looking to my right I noticed what I assumed was a special needs person just catatonically staring forward in front of the other self checkout kiosk. The closer I looked I realized it was a high school age girl wearing a thigh length navy pea coat, slack jawed, not blinking, looking at the screen. I asked her if she needed help. She told me that the candy is buy one get one free. I asked if she entered her phone number or CVS number. She looked at me and said I think so. Just as I told her what to do a very tall, ear puck wearing, CVS employee told her the same thing. I rang through my transaction and noticed she was still transfixed on her problem at hand. I said are you ok. She said it that it said it was still full price. She left upset without her items which she had paid for. Captain puck lobe came from behind the counter and stated to the ether that this is how he gets his candy. I think the moral of the story for me is that my generation seems to be the fixers. The next generation are the users and the newest generation are the helpless.
