Birth Of An Artist
The title of tonight’s abstract expressionist illustration is “Waking Of My Creativity”.
Do you remember the day you reaized you were an artist. The day you knew inside this was the thing you were meant to be. The thing that would define you as person and inform every decision you make. I do, I was six years old and I realized how much I loved to draw. I loved to draw with pencils and pens. I could color but making something whether it was Superman or anything I was interested or curious about. I carried around a zippered leather-bound legal pad. Back then my art supplies were given to me by my father who was a retail manager at the time (he would later become a private investigator but that is a story for another day). As I grew up I taught myself how to draw photorealistically but I also loved just letting the pen move which would later become my methodology today. After years of training and becoming a professional illustrator my focus shifted to abstracts (the thing I despised in college). I have days when I wonder if my art is valid but at the end of the day I am blessed to have been given this gift that allows me to express my feelings and share them with those who are curious.
